No clue yet to stolen idol
By Our Staff Reporter
BHUBANESWAR, NOV. 13. Even as police remained clueless about the
idol of Lord Amabasya Narayan which was stolen from the Lord
Jagannath temple in Puri on Sunday, the Orissa Government has
asked the Collectors of different districts to tighten the
security arrangements in the prominent temples in their areas.
The Chief Minister, Mr. Naveen Patnaik, has issued the order in
order to prevent further temple burglaries.
The police are carrying out extensive search in Puri to trace the
idol of Amabasya Narayan and identify the culprits. They are also
questioning several persons in connection with the case.
The silver idol of Amabasya Narayan, weighing about 6 kg, was
stolen along with the 15-kg idol of Lord Madan Mohan, which was
made of Ashtadhatu (eight different metals). The Madan Mohan idol
was, however, recovered from inside a well close to the Jagannath
temple on Monday.
