Plight of Hindus
Sir, - According to a news report, nearly four million Hindus
have been subjected to rape, murder, loot and intimidation by
fundamentalists in collaboration with the Bangladesh Government.
Nearly four lakhs have entered India for safety and security.
The Human Rights Congress for Bangladeshi Minorities (HRCBM)
members visited Laksmipur, Comilla and Noakhali. Some of the
residents told us that they were waiting to cross over legally or
illegally for the safety of their lives and honour of their
women.
The main objective of the extremists is to get the Hindus out of
their homes so that they could occupy the land.
It is reported that in many villages of Rauzan and Rangunia,
Hindus were prevented from worshipping. Many minority houses were
torched and looted. On October 27, the extremists declared that
the minorities need to pay a monthly tax to live in Bangladesh.

Sir, - Not long ago, the Bangladesh Rifles brutally murdered 16
BSF jawans. The then Defence and Foreign Minister had sought
restraint, because he did not want to embarrass ``friend'' Sheikh
Hasina. Now an unfriendly regime is in place and the Hindus are
being persecuted. What is the Government's excuse for not acting?
Sandeep Shouche,
Pune
