Mob attacks van carrying cows
By Our Staff Correspondent
BHOPAL, NOV. 12. A mob went berserk in Kesharbaug area of Indore
on Sunday and burnt a pick-up van after beating up the driver and
setting free the cows that were being transported in the vehicle.
It had been reported through local cable television that some
Bajrang Dal activists, acting on a tip-off, had resorted to
direct action and intercepted two vehicles engaged in
transporting cattle.
The mob was angry as it believed that the animals were being
taken to a slaughterhouse. After freeing the cows, they bashed up
the driver and cleaner of one of the vans before setting it
afire.
When the Superintendent of Indore Police, Mr. B.B.S. Thakur, was
contacted, he said there was no evidence at this stage to suggest
that those involved in the incident were Bajrang Dal activists.
He said that the vehicle destroyed by mob fury had been forced to
stop due to a flat tyre and what followed was perhaps the result
of sheer speculation on the part of some of those in the crowd.
When asked whether or not the cows were being taken to the
slaughterhouse, the Superintendent of Police said investigations
were on.
