A lone fight against terrorism for India: Joshi
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, NOV. 2. The international offensive against terrorism,
in the opinion of the Union Minister for Human Resource
Development, Dr. Murli Manohar Joshi, has not changed anything
for India as the country has to fight against its own brand of
terrorism alone.
Dr. Joshi was speaking at a function organised in the Aapravasi
Ghat of Mauritius today to commemorate the 167th anniversary of
the arrival of Indian indentured labourers in the island nation.
Stating that terrorism was a menace to humanity, he said India
had been telling the world that international terrorism had no
place in civilised society and needed to be dealt with by nations
unitedly without discrimination as it had no geographical
boundaries or specific characteristics.
Terrorism becomes particularly dangerous when inspired, aided,
encouraged and abetted by a neighbour. ``The powerful nations
have full information about problems faced by India due to
terrorism in which thousands of lives have been lost over the
years. In contrast to the present scenario, India is fighting the
battle against terrorism alone''.
Dr. Joshi, who is in Mauritius as the Prime Minister's special
envoy at the centenary celebrations of Mahatma Gandhi's visit to
the island, waxed eloquent on the Father of the Nation and his
message. Of the view that the world would never be free of
differences, oppression and injustice, he said the only way to
deal with them was through the Gandhian concept of non-violence.
The Aapravasi Day function was attended among others by the
President and Prime Minister of Mauritius. The two countries are
collaborating to build a memorial at Aapravasi Ghat as a tribute
to the indomitable spirit of the indentured labourers from India
who laid the foundation for the Mauritius of today. India is also
helping Mauritius in the restoration of the Aapravasi Ghat.
