Deplorable attack
Sir, - The recent attack on a church in Pakistan which killed 16
persons is deplorable. It is no less a heinous crime than the
September 11 attacks in the U.S. The fundamentalists are setting
examples in cowardliness, not bravery, by such attacks.
If the Governments are not able to protect the constitutional
rights of the minorities, they have no right to proclaim that
they are democratic or anti-terrorist.
Syed Naseeruddin Ansari,
Hyderabad
Sir, - The attack on the Catholic church in Pakistan makes one
wonder what these massacres are aimed at. In the midst of the
`holy war' called by Mullah Omar and the American strikes on
Afghanistan, this attack on the church will add to the existing
religious tensions.
It is time the people behind these terrible atrocities realised
that these attacks will only affect their own kith and kin.
Annie Jose,
Visakhapatnam
