Three workers die of asphyxia at Thirumullaivoyal

CHENNAI, OCT. 30. Three workers of a chicken shop on MTH Road in
Thirumullaivoyal died of asphyxia on Monday night.
Police identified the deceased as Ashok Kumar (20), Selvam (20)
and Velladurai (30).
According to police, Ashok Kumar and Selvam were engaged in
cleaning an underground tank filled with waste from an adjacent
chicken shop. A rope tied to a bucket for drawing out the waste
snapped and it fell into the tank.
Ashok Kumar who entered the tank which had a depth of eight feet
to take the bucket inhaled the fumes and became unconscious. As
Ashok Kumar did not come out, Selvam entered the tank and also
met the same fate. When Velladurai went into the tank to check
their condition, he also got trapped.
Fire service personnel who came to the spot retrieved the three
bodies from the tank.
Thirumullaivoyal police are investigating.
