Place of worship demolished
NASIK, OCT. 30. A place of worship was demolished, one person was
killed and vehicles and kiosks were set on fire in fresh
incidents since yesterday in villages near Maharashtra's Malegaon
town prompting the Army to stage a flag-march and impose curfew.
Stray incidents of arson were reported from Antapur, Ndevla and
Kalwan, where kiosks were set afire by violent mobs. Curfew,
which was relaxed at Devla from 7 a.m. was reimposed at 4 p.m.
The Army also staged a flag-march at Ajangawadhel, Nampur,
Daharabad, Antapur, Satana, Thendode, Devla and Kalwan villages,
sources said.
However, no untoward incident was reported from Malegaon town,
where curfew was relaxed today for 90 minutes, police said adding
so far 350 people had been arrested in connection with violence
and arson in the district. Curfew was relaxed for one hour from 3
p.m. today also at Daregaon, Soygaon, Dhyane and Malde towns.
Malegaon had witnessed large-scale violence last Friday when
police prevented a group of people distributing pamphlets to
protest the U.S. airstrikes on Afghanistan.
