Leander-Mahesh pair loses in final
NEW DELHI, OCT. 29. The third-seeded Leander Paes and Mahesh
Bhupathi lost 6-7 (3-7), 4-6 to Ellis Ferreira of South Africa
and Rick Leach of the US in the doubles final of the $one million
Swiss Indoor championship in Basel on Sunday.
It was the third loss in a final in recent times for Mahesh,
following the defeats in Indianapolis and Moscow, in the company
of Sebastien Lareau of Canada and Jeff Tarango of the US
respectively.
The Indian pair collected $43,300 from the Swiss event, and has
been seeded fifth for the last tournament of the season, the
Masters series event in Paris this week. Leander and Mahesh have
a bye in the first round of the $2.95 million event, and will
meet the winner of the clash, featuring David Adams of South
Africa and Lucas Arnold of Argentina against Andrew Florent and
David MacPherson of Australia.
