Leander-Mahesh pair loses in final

NEW DELHI, OCT. 29. The third-seeded Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi lost 6-7 (3-7), 4-6 to Ellis Ferreira of South Africa and Rick Leach of the US in the doubles final of the $one million Swiss Indoor championship in Basel on Sunday.

It was the third loss in a final in recent times for Mahesh, following the defeats in Indianapolis and Moscow, in the company of Sebastien Lareau of Canada and Jeff Tarango of the US respectively.

The Indian pair collected $43,300 from the Swiss event, and has been seeded fifth for the last tournament of the season, the Masters series event in Paris this week. Leander and Mahesh have a bye in the first round of the $2.95 million event, and will meet the winner of the clash, featuring David Adams of South Africa and Lucas Arnold of Argentina against Andrew Florent and David MacPherson of Australia.
