Manisha in doubles final
NEW DELHI, OCT. 22. Manisha Malhotra made the doubles final of
the $ 50,000 USTA women's circuit tennis tournament in Largo,
Florida, but the final was abandoned because of bad weather, last
week.
Manisha in partnership with Leanne Baker of New Zealand beat the
top-seeded Marissa Irvin and Katie Schlukebir of the U.S. 6-4, 6-
3 in the semifinals, after having got past Ansley Cargill of the
U.S. and Petra Rampre of Slovenia 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 in the earlier
round.
In the final, the Indo-Kiwi pair was pitted against the second-
seeded Erika De Lone of the U.S. and, the singles winner of the
tournament, Emmanuelle Gagliardi of Switzerland. As per the ITF
rules, both the finalist teams were awarded the runners-up prize
money of $ 1,500 each and 25 WTA points. Had the match been
played, the winner would have gained $ 2,800 and 36 WTA points.
