A lesson for others

Sir,- Yielding to public protest, the Bangalore Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) has dropped its idea of allotting the work of II phase of IV stage of Cauvery Water Supply Scheme to Biwater Consortium of the U.K. and has now decided to take up the work itself. The scheme requires a simple civil engineering work falling within the competence of the BWSSB.

The involvement of an outside agency would have only inflated the cost of the project. The tariff demanded by Biwater is three times as high as the present rate. Other States should learn from Karnataka.

S. Kuppuswamy,

Bangalore
