Resurrecting George

Sir,- Mr. Jaswant Singh, Minister for External Affairs, made Mr. George Fernandes `clean' as Lord Jesus made a leper clean. The script had the blessings of the Prime Minister, Mr. A. B. Vajpayee, who beset by internal and external problems, had no options except to yield to the threat of Mr. Fernandes.

Political expediency has clearly overshadowed the Tehelka fallout and the investigations in progress by the Venkataswami Commission.

In the past, Central Cabinet Ministers of yore such as Shanmugham Chetty, Shyam Prasad, John Mathai, C. D. Deshmukh and Ashok Mehta resigned when there were only whispers about their integrity. May their tribe increase!

D. Krishna Mohan Rao,
