Wrong timing
Sir, - The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee's statement
regarding the revival of Ayodhya cell in the PMO (Oct. 11) has
come out at the most inopportune time when the world is fighting
terrorism and religious fanaticism. It appears as if the Prime
Minister is bowing to the pressures of the VHP leaders. The
commitment extracted by the VHP leaders from the Prime Minister
with an eye on the coming Assembly elections in Uttar Pradesh
will only open a Pandora's box. Mr. Vajpayee's personal religious
convictions should not affect his neutrality as Prime Minister.
Paramahans Ramachandra Das's observations that the ``Bamiyan
demolition lead to the Taliban's doom'' and ``it is that curse of
the gods'' is not in good taste.
R. Daniel Jayakumar,
Nellikuppam, T.N.
