When it rains rock

THEY CAME from the land Down Under. And went underground at the Vineyard Centre last Friday. Aussie band Formaldehyde went all cymbals crashing, and let their fury compete with nature's as rains lashed the city.

But nothing could contain the infectious enthusiasm of the audience. Those who had turned up got more than their money's worth. Four bands for the price of one.

The clang-bang started when a bunch of guys from MCC put up an ``acapella act'' (using voices as instruments) that they called `Wholly Unholy', crooning `Fill up my cup'.

The Underground inter-college rock fest hangover continued when yet another college band `Two Days Old' (yes, the band was two days old when it hit the stage).

`Blitz' continued the blitzkrieg, kicking off the heavy metal diet for the evening - Green Day, Rage Against the Machine and Limp Bizkit to boost up the attitude.

That was when the Aussies made an entry. Luke (vocals), Andrew (bass), Leslie (guitar) and Mike (drums) gave the thunder some competition with their prescription for head- bangers - hardcore metal.

Though somewhat unfamiliar with the numbers being belted out, nothing could stop the Headbangers ball at the underground venue. They even played a metal version of the Bryan Adams hit, `Summer of 69' that had the audience ecstatic.

Finally, Sanjeev from `Buddhist Babes' joined Mario on the bass and Ranjith on the drums as they paid tributes to Led Zeppelin and Jim Morrison before Ameet joined Sanjeev for the last act of the evening.

Coming up on Friday is `Time Machine' series, that would take rockers on a trip down memory lane as the Live 1o1 series continues at the Vineyard Centre.

Starting this week, bands from the city would pay tributes to the legends of rock over the decades. The rockers from the Vineyard band would be there. Interested bands could get in touch with the Vineyard Centre to register.

The flashback into the era of vintage rock, starts 7 p.m. tonight. For tickets and registration, call 3740774.
