PM congratulates Khaleda
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, OCT. 11. The Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee,
today congratulated Begum Khaleda Zia on assumption of office as
Prime Minister of Bangladesh and extended an invitation to her to
visit India in the near future.
Mr. Vajpayee, in a letter to the Bangladesh Prime Minister, noted
the enduring friendship between the two countries which draws on
shared history and heritage, complementarities in the economies
and a commonality of problems facing the region. ``We look
forward to building on this friendship and to give further
momentum and content to our multi-faceted bilateral cooperation
for the benefit our peoples,'' said Mr. Vajpayee.
He recalled his interaction as External Affairs Minister with the
late President, Ziaur Rahman, and pointed out that India
recognised that it was his vision of regional cooperation that
crystallised into the SAARC. ``We have to work together to fulfil
this vision more fully.''
He also extended New Delhi's best wishes for her term as Prime
Minister.
