Japanese planes refuel at Kolkata
KOLKATA, OCT. 8. Six Japanese military aircraft, transporting
relief materials for Afghan refugees in Pakistan, today refuelled
at the N.S.C. Bose international airport, as Naxalites held an
anti-war demonstration nearby.
The first of the C-130 Hercules transport aircraft of the
Japanese Self-Defence Air Force (JSDA) touched down at 9.45 a.m.,
with the rest following at 20-minute intervals. The planes, which
took off from Tokyo, stopped over at Utapao in Thailand before
arriving in Kolkata.
The aircraft were refuelled by the Hindustan Petroleum
Corporation and ground services provided by the Indian Airlines,
the Airports Authority of India Director, Mr. Roshan Lal, said.
