India will fight terrorism on its own: BJP

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, OCT. 8. The Bharatiya Janata Party president, Mr. Jana Krishnamurthi, today asserted that the BJP-led NDA Government had been guided by its national interest in takings steps to wage its battle against terrorism on its own and not be dependent on the U.S. for it.

Commenting on the situation in the wake of the military attacks launched on Afghanistan by the U.S., he said there would be no fallout on India. ``What is of concern is the more recent terrorist attack on Jammu and Kashmir State Assembly building,'' he said at a press conference.

On the RSS demand for attacking the Pak-occupied Kashmir, Mr. Krishnamurthi said many suggestions were given, but only the Government had the authority to decide.

Referring to the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf's remarks that he condemned the terrorist attack on Jammu and Kashmir Assembly building, he said that if Gen. Musharraf was so concerned, he should stop such incidents from taking place.

Referring to the suggestion of the Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Dr. Farooq Abdullah, to attack Pakistan after the recent suicide attack on the State Assembly building, he said the Government had to assess the situation and take steps.
