Taliban vows to fight back
Islamabad, Oct. 8. An emergency session of the Taliban Cabinet resolved today to fight back against U.S.-led forces and ruled out any change in the militia's policy of protecting the alleged terrorist mastermind, Osama bin Laden.

India exchanges notes with Russia

Over 100 die as planes collide
Milan, Oct. 8. Over 100 persons were killed in a runway collision at Milan's Linate airport early today between a Scandinavian Airlines (SAS) jet and a Cessna plane. A number of ground staff were believed to be among the victims.

Plea for Tirumala as ''no-fly zone''
Tirupati, Oct. 8. The Andhra Pradesh Government is said to have decided to ask the Centre to declare the air space over the Tirumala hills, the abode of Lord Venkateswara as ``no-fly- zone''.

3 share Nobel for medicine
Stockholm, Ooct. 8. Dr. Leland Hartwell of the U.S. and Dr. Timothy Hunt and Dr. Paul Nurse, both of Britain, were today awarded the Nobel medicine prize for 2001 for research on cells that opens new possibilities for the treatment of cancer, the Nobel jury said.
