Telugu Akademi gesture to Inter top rankers

HYDERABAD, OCT. 5. Telugu Akademi has announced a scheme to
honour top rankers of Telugu medium in the annual Intermediate
public examination with Pratibha awards.
First and second rank holders in the five groups of the
Intermediate examination -- MPC, BPC, CEC, HEC, MEC -- will be
given cash awards of Rs. 4,000 and Rs. 3,000 respectively and
medals.
The scheme is aimed at encouraging students pursuing their
courses in Telugu medium, the Akedemi director, Mrs A.
Manjulatha, told presspersons on Friday,
The awards for the rankers of the two-year Intermediate course
(1999-2001) will be presented at a function here on October 8 by
the Minister for Higher Education, Mr. K. Ramachander Rao.
The recipients of the award are: first rankers Saoujanya (MPC) of
Taskhasila Junior College, Mahabubnagar, Rajapanthula Vasudev
(BPC) of S.L.V.R.G.S.V.R. Junior College, Nimmakur (Krishna
district), T. Arun Kumar (CEC) of Narendra Cooperative Junior
College, Metpally (Karimnagar), C. Brahmaiah (HEC), S.P.N.W.
Junior College, B. Kothakota (Chittoor) and L. Gangadhar (MEC),
A.P. Residential Junior College, Hindupur (Anantapur).
Second rankers: J. Veeranna (MPC), Srikrishnaveni Junior College,
Gadwal (Mahabubnagar), T. Himabindu(BPC), C.A.N. Junior College,
Tirupati(Chittoor), K. Srisailam (CEC), Vignanabharathi Junior
College, Siddipet (Medak), S.K. Sudhir Patoja (HEC), Govt. Junior
College, Vemulavada (Karimnagar) and D. Srinivasa Rao (MEC), A.P.
Residential Junior College, Nagarjunasagar (Guntur).
Mrs. Manjulatha said more than three lakh students appeared for
the Intermediate examination in Telugu medium and about 2.5 lakh
students are from English medium.
About the other activities of the Akademi, she said a project to
compile the dialects of Telugu in different districts was taken
up. Ten centres in each district were selected for this purpose
and the dialects of about 17 districts had so far been compiled.
The Akademi had published two dictionaries -- English-Telugu and
Telugu-Telugu and another Telugu-English dictionary was under
publication.
