U.S. Senate vote to waive all sanctions against Pak.
Washington, Oct. 5. Keeping in line with the existing political realities and in the context of America's war against terrorism, the U.S. Senate has voted to waive temporarily all the remaining sanctions against Pakistan for two years. The lawmakers have said that the Foreign Relations Committee has to be notified each time waivers are being exercised. The Bill now goes to the House of Representatives.

Advani warns against terrorist attacks
New delhi, oct. 5. The union home minister, mr. L.k. Advani, today warned that threats of terrorist strikes using ``small nuclear bombs'' and other ``chemical and biological weapons of mass destruction'' can ``no longer be taken lightly''. The country needs to be prepared to handle such emergencies while sensitising the people about the danger. There were lessons to be learnt from the terrorist strikes in the united states.

Blair puts Taliban on notice
Islamabad, Oct. 5. The British Prime Minister, Mr. Tony Blair, who has emerged as the leading campaigner for the United States in its fight against international terrorism, today along with the Pakistan President, Gen. Pervez Musharraf, put the Taliban on notice to either hand over the Saudi dissident, Osama bin Laden, or be prepared to face the consequences, which could include the demise of the militia.

Fodder cases transferred
New Delhi, Oct. 5. The Supreme Court today ordered the transfer of 36 cases relating to the `Rs. 720-crore fodder scam', involving two former Bihar Chief Ministers, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav (who is also the Rashtriya Janata Dal president) and Dr. Jagannath Mishra, from Bihar to Jharkhand.

Violence mars Bihar bandh
Patna, Oct. 5. The NDA-sponsored Bihar bandh called to demand the resignation of the Chief Minister, Ms. Rabri Devi, and to protest the recent police firing in Muzaffarpur evoked a mixed response today.

Heavy shelling in Kargil
Srinagar, Oct. 5. Pakistani troops resorted to heavy shelling in the Kargil sector and the people in Kaksar and Latu villages were evacuated. In the Poonch sector, the security forces foiled an infiltration bid, killing 11 militants.

Sikhs protest sacrilege
Chandigarh, Oct. 5. The Dal Khalsa International leader, Mr. Kanwarpal Singh Bittu, today charged that the Punjab Government had not taken any action on the various incidents of sacrilege reported from various parts of the State.
