Hospital to treat digestive diseases

CHENNAI, OCT. 3. A hospital dedicated for treating digestive
diseases using state-of-the-art equipment, backed by a team of
specialists in gastroenterology, endoscopy, laproscopy and
radiology, will be inaugurated here on October 7.
MedIndia Digestive Diseases Hospitals at Nungambakkam, according
to its chairman, Dr. T. S. Chandrasekar, is a Rs.3- crore venture
offering cost-effective international class treatment. Some of
the equipment are not available in many places in the country.
The hospital has an `Esophageal lab' that can evaluate foodpipe
problems and non-cardiac chest pains; a Video Enterscope for
evaluate obscure small intestinal bleeding, bowel tumors and Endo
Ultrasonography that incorporates both endoscopy and ultrasound
at its tip to assess the spread of Esophageal /gastric/rectal
tumours (better than CT scan or MRI).
The hospital, which is a branch of Gastro-enterology and
Endoscopy Centre, Coimbatore, will have an intensive care unit
for liver, pancreas and other digestive diseases, and tie-ups
with international experts. To benefit the public ``we will have
a Jaundice Information Centre as a hotline service and a
digestive diseases public awareness cell that can provide free
information''.
To mark the inauguration, MedIndia planned to hold free camps for
checking for `digestive diseases' and `Hepatitis B' detection on
October 20 and 21.
