Court orders on Oct. 4 on resubmitted CB-CID report

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, OCT. 1. A special court will on October 4 pass orders on the ``resubmitted report'' of the CB-CID on further investigation of the ``TANSI R.R. Industries case''.

Mr. P. Anbazhagan, Special Judge-III, today briefly heard prosecution arguments on the ``resubmitted further report'', and said he would pass orders on whether he was accepting the report. After the new regime came to power, the prosecution sought permission to further investigate the case, and it was granted. On September 17, the CB-CID submitted to the court a report citing six witnesses and filed their statements.

However, on September 20, the judge did not accept the report and sought to know how the statements of the witnesses and documents filed with the further report would strengthen the prosecution case. He also said there was no documentary evidence to support the statement of a witness, Mr. D. Thangavelu, former Additional Inspector-General of Registration, which was contrary to the evidence of witnesses already examined by the prosecution and documents marked in the case. The prosecution resubmitted the report along with its reply to the questions raised by the judge.

Four persons including two IAS officers, Mr. T.R. Srinivasan and Mr. Karpoorasundarapandian, have been charged with entering into a conspiracy to purchase TANSI-Die castings assets at Guindy by grossly undervaluing the property compared to the guideline value in the name of the private company, R.R. Industries. The transaction caused a loss of Rs. 96.28 lakhs to the Government.
