New education, training scheme for CA students

NEW DELHI, OCT. 1. The Institute of Chartered Accounts of India (ICAI) has introduced a new education and training scheme.

Under the scheme, which comes into effect from today, a professional education course (PE) has been introduced in two parts (PE-1 and PE-II) and a successful completion of the course would be necessary to go in for three years of practical training. There would also be compulsory computer training for 250 hours prior to joining the practical training.

The ICAI has also announced that graduates with more than specified marks and those who have passed final ICSI and ICWAI examinations would be exempt from PE-1.

The minimum duration of the PE-1 and PE-II courses would be 10 months each and the number of attempts in PE-1 and PE-II would be restricted to a maximum of five in each examination.

The ICAI has also announced that the new syllabus would include a paper on business communications at PE-1 level and a full paper on information technology at PE-II level. A new paper on management information and control systems has been introduced at the final level.

It has also been stipulated that Articled Clerks who have completed practical training and passed final examinations as per the new syllabus would have to attend a programme on general management and communication skills or any other programme as specified by the Council before applying for membership.

Also, entitlement to train Articled Clerks would be based on the criteria of efflux of time and such other basis as may be decided by the Council.
