Auroville's affair with fashion

The Circle of Life, an exhibition at Studio Saks, 9/17 Jeypore Colony, Padmavathi Road, Gopalapuram, phone 8279831/8204018, brings together the creations of several designers from Auroville. Clothes, accessories, lifestyle products... you can have a feel of the Aurovillean specialities here till October 6.

Prema's collection features some superfine hand-painted silk salwar suits, scarves and accessories. Her penchant for painting is reflected in the artistic appeal of her couture. With refined painting techniques, she has painstakingly worked on wispy fabrics for that contemporary appeal. Formals, casuals and Indo- Westerns are part of her vibrant range.

The creations of Roberta Tempest Keeping, a knitwear designer, have a global flavour — clean cuts, utilitarian look. Intricate knits and crochets make her line of kurtis, tops, dresses and children's clothes different, while Prema Issac takes on the stylistic challenge with inspiration from the rich cultural diversity of the country. The shirts, kurtas and fusion wear are a refreshing mix of ethnic fabrics and Western styles.

Satya Giordano makes a stunning statement with lamps carved from various crystals (with customised bases). Shaped in unique ways, the glow rocks with bright lights and dimmers are sure to add a dash of drama to interiors.

Vijay and Prema Devi's jewellery in captivating semi-precious stones are just right for fashion aficionados. Coming in aqua shades, the collection of chokers, necklaces, bracelets and earrings is priced Rs.500 onwards.

That's not all. Circle of Life displays a whole range of home ware too for those with fine tastes and big pockets!
