'Treatment in Govt. hospitals not inferior'
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, SEPT. 30. Government doctors should work towards
removing the misconception among the public that care and
treatment at the Government Hospitals were inferior to that
available in private sector, the Electricity Minister, Mr. D.
Jayakumar, said today.
Addressing a meeting to mark the World Heart Day, organised by
the Chennai Chapter of the Cardiological Society, he said public
awareness of heart diseases was high.
Commending a visual programme screened by Dr. V. Chockalingam on
heart disease and its preventive aspects, the Minister said the
Directorate of Medical Education could make use of Dr.
Chockalingam and his team for highlighting the preventive aspects
of the disease.
Cardiologists at the meeting suggested the need for change in
lifestyle among the younger generation to reduce stress, as it
was the major contributor for the heart ailments.
They said that despite advancement in cardiac care, prevention
through proper food habits and exercises was a better way for a
disease-free healthy life.
The Director of Medical Education, Dr. P. Raja Sambandam, the
Dean, Madras Medical College, Dr. M. Muniratinam, the Society
president, Prof. V. Vaidyanathan and the secretary, Dr. A.
