3 members of Dandupalya gang arrested
BANGALORE, SEPT. 29. Three members, including two women, of the
notorious Dandupalya gang, who were wanted in 17 murder cases
reported from different parts of the State and Kerala, have been
arrested by the City Police.
The names of the arrested were given as Savithri (28) of
Channasandra in Bangalore Rural District, Padma (23) of
Kurabarahalli in Kolar District, and Babu (25) of Anjanappa
Garden in the City.
Police said Padma was allegedly involved in 17 murder cases, nine
in Bangalore, two in Hubli, three in Mysore, and one each in
Shimoga, Mangalore and Kerala. Savithri was allegedly involved in
16 murder cases, seven in Bangalore, two in Hubli, three in
Mysore, and one each in Shimoga, Mangalore and Kerala. Babu was
involved in many murder, robbery, and theft cases reported from
Hebbal, Indiranagar, Yeshwanthpur, and Vidyaranyapura in the
City.
Police said the three were also wanted in murder cases which were
solved after the arrest of Munikrishna, Venkatesh, Ramesh,
Krishna, Nalla Thimma, and Dodda Hanuma in November last. Padma,
Savithri, and Babu were absconding. Chargesheets had been filed
against them.
Police said Padma had Rs. 3 lakhs in her account with the State
Bank of India (SBI) here, while Savithri had Rs. 12,000 in her
account with the Archana Co-operative Bank.
After the City witnessed a series of murder cases, the Deputy
Commissioner of Police (West), Mr. G.B.Chebbi, set up a special
team led by the Assistant Commissioner of Police (Chickpet), Mr.
G.Ahmed Bava, to nab the Dandupalya gang.
The team comprising Mr. Siddaramaiah, Inspector, Mr. Ramesh and
Ms. Munirathna, sub-inspectors, and Ms. Gunamma, Ms.
M.Jayalakshamma, Ms. S.Kamalamma, Ms. Veena, Mr. Shivanna, and
Mr. Kumar, constables, nabbed the gangsters.
Police said Padma and Savithri used to collect information about
the people to be targeted by the gang. They also assisted the
gang in committing murders.
While Padma and Savithri have been taken into custody by the
Vijayanagar and Kamakshipalya police for interrogation, Babu is
in the custody of the Hebbal police.
