CM will be Jayalalithaa's neighbour

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, SEPT. 29. The new Chief Minister, Mr. O. Paneerselvam, will soon become a neighbour of the former Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa, at Poes Garden here.

Mr. Paneerselvam is expected to shift from his ``Thenpennai'' residence on Greenways Road to a bungalow opposite Ms. Jayalalithaa's Poes Garden mansion in a week.

While Ms. Jayalalithaa lives at 36, Poes Garden, the Chief Minister will move into 56, Poes Garden, a worn-out building, till recently used as a restplace for the security guards of the former Chief Minister.

The dilapidated bungalow has now been covered with tin-sheets, as a battery of personnel from the PWD office at Government Estate has begun hectic repair works. ``The building was designated as the Chief Minister's official residence a week ago. And, we will get it ready for occupation within a week,'' according to PWD officials.

But officials say no major modification of the bungalow is being done. Just a fresh coat of paint and electrical works.

However, the bungalow has already turned into a security sterile zone. A barricade has been placed just near the bungalow to keep onlookers at bay.
