Jet Airways to levy insurance surcharge

NEW DELHI, SEPT. 29 Jet Airways has decided to levy an insurance surcharge of Rs. 100 per ticket for travel on all its flights from October 1. It will apply to all tickets issued with rupee fares and $2 per flight coupon will be charged on dollar fare tickets issued in India on or before September 29 for travel from October 1. A sum of $2 will be levied per flight coupon on all tickets issued outside India in dollar fares on or after October 15.

On partially used tickets, where travel has commenced prior to October 1, the surcharge will not be applicable if travel is completed on or before October 4.

The measure is applicable on all categories of fares, including discounted and special, personnel of the armed forces, senior citizens and students. There will not be any surcharge on infant tickets. This has been done in accordance with conditions imposed by insurance agencies to cover for war, hijacking, terrorists attacks and so on after the attacks on the World Trade Center and the Pentagon in the U.S.

Jet Airways has also decided to cut the salary of all its officers upward of managers by 10 per cent from October 1. Other austerity measures include a freeze on recruitment, business promotion entertainment and overtime for employees.

It has also decided to combine or curtail some of its flights in view of the reduction in inbound traffic from Gulf and Europe in the aftermath of the U.S. attack. The sectors affected include Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore-Chennai, Mumbai- Pune, Jorhat-Guwahati and Mumbai-Baroda.
