Jet Airways to levy insurance surcharge
By Our Special Correspondent
NEW DELHI, SEPT. 29 Jet Airways has decided to levy an insurance
surcharge of Rs. 100 per ticket for travel on all its flights
from October 1. It will apply to all tickets issued with rupee
fares and $2 per flight coupon will be charged on dollar fare
tickets issued in India on or before September 29 for travel from
October 1. A sum of $2 will be levied per flight coupon on all
tickets issued outside India in dollar fares on or after October
15.
On partially used tickets, where travel has commenced prior to
October 1, the surcharge will not be applicable if travel is
completed on or before October 4.
The measure is applicable on all categories of fares, including
discounted and special, personnel of the armed forces, senior
citizens and students. There will not be any surcharge on infant
tickets. This has been done in accordance with conditions imposed
by insurance agencies to cover for war, hijacking, terrorists
attacks and so on after the attacks on the World Trade Center
and the Pentagon in the U.S.
Jet Airways has also decided to cut the salary of all its
officers upward of managers by 10 per cent from October 1. Other
austerity measures include a freeze on recruitment, business
promotion entertainment and overtime for employees.
It has also decided to combine or curtail some of its flights in
view of the reduction in inbound traffic from Gulf and Europe in
the aftermath of the U.S. attack. The sectors affected include
Chennai-Thiruvananthapuram, Bangalore-Chennai, Mumbai- Pune,
Jorhat-Guwahati and Mumbai-Baroda.
