Curves of elegance
THE HOUSE of Soanba makes a statement of elegance and style in
its presentation of lifestyle accessories at its newly opened
premises at 75, Harrington Road, Chetpet, Chennai-600031. The
table settings of Norotaki crockery, Libbey's gleaming glassware
and the strong pastel colours of German ceramic tableware crafts
create a forgotten ambience of elegant living. Yet the concepts,
curves and lines of both tableware and glassware spell
contemporary chic as does the silver-coated cutlery from Jaipur.
The crockery and glassware are beautifully displayed in period
display cases and Victorian what-nots - a far cry from the dusty
corners to which these items are usually consigned in most
showrooms.
Another touch of graceful contemporary living is provided by
Soanba's collection of silver tea sets, bowls, candle stands and
cutlery. Minimal embellishment and elegant lines define the
silver with its international design and flavour.
The Yamini Collection of Soanba's handwoven cotton home
furnishings is strong, young and full of colour. In the export
market for the past 10 years, Yamini's soft furnishings mirror
the latest international look, colours and style. The
craftsmanship and weave is Indian with superb weaves expressed in
ribbed cotton, with stripes and checks. Self-coloured weaves are
dressed up with attractive block prints, a fleeting touch of
embroidery or the flash of a glass bead.
Bedspreads, cushions in all sizes, throws, curtains, table linen,
teacosies, kitchen gloves and aprons define a wide range of
vibrantly hued Yamini products. The designer home furnishings,
which include cotton dhurries in soft shades, are among the best
available in Chennai under one roof.
