Two children trapped in lift rescued
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, SEPT. 6. Two children of a senior police officer, who
were trapped in a lift on the second floor of the SP Quarters in
Kilpauk were rescued by fire service personnel late tonight.
According to eye-witnesses, Akalya (5) and Egalya (4), daughters
of Railway SP Mr. M. Ravi, had got into the lift around 10 p.m.
The lift got stuck at the second floor following a mechanical
failure.
Noticing the incident, neighbours alerted fire service personnel.
The steel rods were bent and a fireman squeezed in through the
opening. The children were brought out, much to the relief of
their parents. The operation lasted about half an hour.
Fire at tea stall
A fire broke out at a tea stall on Thirumalai Pillai Road,
T.Nagar when an LPG cylinder burst. No one was injured.
The fire was put off by the locals before the arrival of the fire
tender.
In another incident, a cow that fell into a well in Manali, was
rescued by fire service personnel on Thursday morning.
