Tyagi granted bail

MUMBAI, SEPT. 5. The former Mumbai Police Commissioner, Mr. Ram Deo Tyagi, was today granted conditional bail in connection with his alleged involvement in the Suleman Usman Bakery police firing incident of January 9, 1993, in which nine persons were killed.

The Additional Sessions Judge, Mr. A.M. Thipsay, while releasing Mr. Tyagi on bail directed him to furnish a surety of Rs. 20,000 in like amount. The judge also directed him not to leave the country without prior permission of the court. The judge, in his order observed, ``in my opinion, this case does not require Mr. Tyagi's detention till the trial is over''.
