MTC bus crew assaulted

CHENNAI, AUG. 30. A Metropolitan Transport Corporation bus driver and conductor were assaulted by three college students today after the driver told them not to tease two girls in the bus.

The incident led to a traffic jam in the Purasawakkam High Road from around 4-20 p.m.

The driver, Mr. A. Nagesh, on the route 37C (AYA 391), was preparing to leave the Dasaprakash bus stop when three boys stopped their bike in front of the bus and called out to two girls seated in the front. The driver asked them to clear the way for the bus. At the Kellys stop, the students got into the bus and attacked the driver.

When the conductor, Mr. Shanmugam, intervened, he was hit in the chest. The crew were treated at the Kilpauk Medical College Hospital. One of the students slapped a woman. The windshield of the bus was damaged.

P. Loganathan, a student of the Presidency College has been arrested. The police are on the lookout for two others.
