Vidhana Soudha South Block in 3 years
By Our Special Correspondent
BANGALORE, AUG. 30. The grievance of the State concerning non-
receipt of special Central assistance sought by it to tackle the
drought situation even after the visit of the Centre's study
team, will be taken up by the Chief Minister, Mr. S.M. Krishna,
during his visit to Delhi on Friday to attend the meeting of the
National Development Council.
This was stated here on Thursday by Mr. Krishna who addressed
presspersons after laying the foundation stone for the Rs.100-
crore Vidhana Soudha South Block.
To a question, Mr. Krishna said the World Bank had released the
first installment of $ 152 million for development works in the
State. The allocation for various works would be decided by the
Cabinet.
Mr. Krishna said the Government had set a target of 36 months for
the completion of the South Block.
The foundation stone function was attended by a large number of
ministers, presiding officers of the two Houses of Legislature,
and legislators. But there were no speeches in view of the death
of TMC leader, G.K. Moopanar, in Chennai.
The South Block will be built over an area of 6,27,203 sq. ft.
and will have eight floors, including three cellar floors and the
basement.
The cellar floors will be utilised for parking of vehicles and
for electrical installations. Four floors are meant for chambers
of ministers and secretaries to Government.
M/s B.G. Shirke and Company has agreed to construct the building
at a cost of Rs.77.41 crores. The existing building would be
demolished within three months.
There is also provision for payment of incentive to the company
if it completes the work ahead of schedule. The company will have
to pay penalty if it fails to abide by the schedule.
The new premises will enable the Government to save Rs.5.50
crores a year which it is paying as rent for private buildings.
