Phil Spender takes on new assignment in U.S.

CHENNAI, AUG. 21. Mr. Philip G. Spender, currently President and Managing Director of Ford India, has been appointed President, Chief Executive Officer and Chief Operating Officer for Auto Alliance International Inc. based in Flat Rock, Michigan, U.S., says a company release.

Auto Alliance is a joint venture between Mazda and Ford Motor Company and produces the Mazda 626 and the Mercury Cougar.

Mr. Spender has been with Ford Motor Company for more than 26 years and has a rich experience gained through various cross- functional assignments in the company.

Mr. Spender took charge as Managing Director and President of Ford India in January 1999. Under his stewardship, the Ford Ikon established itself as a market leader with 24 per cent marketshare. He also played an active role in the apex industrial associations of SIAM, CII and the American Chamber of Commerce.
