Bihar battle spills over to Delhi

By Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, AUG. 21. The political battle in Bihar between the ruling Rashtriya Janata Dal and the opposition parties belonging to the National Democratic Alliance today spilled over to Delhi with leaders staging a `dharna' protesting against one another.

While the RJD leader, Mr. Laloo Prasad Yadav, was joined at the `maha dharna' by the CPI-M general secretary, Mr. Harkishan Singh Surjeet, the former Prime Minister, Mr. Chandra Shekhar and Mr. Mahabir Prasad of the Congress, NDA MPs staged a protest sit-in opposite the main entrance of Parliament House with Union Ministers from Bihar including Mr. Nitish Kumar, Dr. C.P. Thakur and Mr. Shahnawaz Hussain, expressing solidarity with them.

The Communications Minister, Mr. Ram Vilas Paswan, held a separate press conference demanding the dismissal of the Rabri Devi Government for its `inability' to protect the lives of Dalits in the State.

He also asked the Congress to review its support to the RJD Government in Bihar. Mr. Paswan said a Lok Janshakti Party delegation would meet the President, the Prime Minister and the Congress in support of its demand.
