Non-policeman appointed PRO in Commissionerate
By Our Staff Reporter
CHENNAI, AUG. 18. A non-police official has been appointed as a
new public relations officer (PRO) at the City Police
Commissionerate as in the DGP office and other Government
departments. He took charge on Saturday. Hitherto the post was
held by police officials in the rank of Assistant Commissioners.
When contacted, the City Police Commissioner, Mr, K.
Muthukaruppan, said a request was made by him to the Government,
to appoint a non-police official to the Commissionerate to co-
ordinate with the members of the Fourth Estate. This was accepted
by the Government and they appointed Mr. J. Chandran as a new
PRO. `Instead of a police officer, we wanted a professional
public relations handling person. Hence, the request was made to
the Government', he said.
