Bill on MPs salary hike cleared

NEW DELHI, AUG. 17. The salary and allowances of the Members of Parliament are to be increased substantially. The Union Cabinet on Thursday cleared a bill to this effect.

The additional financial implications for the Government on account of the increases is estimated to be about Rs. 24 crores per annum.

While the salary is to be tripled from Rs. 4,000 to Rs. 12,000 per month, daily allowance is to be hiked from Rs. 400 to Rs. 500, constituency allowance from Rs. 8,000 to Rs. 10,000 per month, transport allowance from Rs. 6 per km to Rs. 8 per km, and office expense allowance from Rs. 9,500 to Rs. 14,000 per month.
