Burglar 'specialised' in targeting offices held

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, AUG. 15. A burglar who `specialised' in targeting factories and offices inside Guindy Industrial Estate was arrested and Rs.1.55 lakhs was recovered from him.

Police identified the person as Prabhakaran (30) of Moorthy Nagar in Thirumullaivoyal.

Prabhakaran allegedly confessed to the police that he had also entered several government establishments and taken away money and other items. He was earlier arrested by the police on charges of stealing from factories in Ambattur and Avadi.

When he came out from prison he shifted operations to Guindy Industrial Estate. He was part of a gang which concentrated only at targeting offices during the closed hours. These intruders had time till the following day when the office will open for completing their `mission'.

Following a series of complaints of burglary a special police team was formed. The culprit was identified based on finger prints lifted from various scenes of crime. A trap was laid for the accused and he was caught, police said.

Most of the burglaries could have been avoided if the security personnel were alert or burglar alarms had been fixed, police said.
