Probe ordered into food poisoning

GUWAHATI, AUG. 11. The Barpeta district administration in Assam today ordered a magisterial inquiry into the alleged food poisoning in which more than 700 people, mostly children, were taken ill. The inquiry will ascertain the cause of the food poisoning at Bhilla and Keotkuchi villages, official sources said.

More than 700 people were taken ill after being served with `gram' at a function organised by the Government to mark the `Development and Peace Week' on Thursday night.

They are being treated in Barpeta Civil Hospital and makeshift medical camps, sources said. A team of specialists from the Guwahati Medical College today visited the district.

The district administration has collected blood samples of the affected for examination.
