Duty on drugs exempted

NEW DELHI, AUG. 7. The Centre has decided to exempt certain drugs
used in the treatment of HIV/AIDS and the opportunistic
infections associated with it from customs and excise duties with
a view to make them more affordable.
The anti-HIV drugs which have been exempted are: Nevirapine,
Effavirenz, Stavudine, Indinavir, Abacavir, Didanorine,
Zalcitabine, Lamivudine, Ritonavir, and Saquanavir. The drugs
used for treating the opportunistic infections and which have
been exempted from the duties are: Tretinarin, amphotericin B,
anti-D-Immunoglobin, Gancyclovir, Alfa- Interferon, and
Somatropin.
