Back to old ways

Sir, - There was an indication from the Congress and other Opposition parties that the current Parliament session would function without obstruction, unlike the Budget session. However, the story is no different with the House witnessing noisy scenes and being adjourned without transacting any business worth the while.

We have inherited a rich legacy in parliamentary debates from the days of Jawaharlal Nehru. Is it not imperative that our present day leaders live up to this glorious tradition? There are umpteen ways to express dissent - calling attention motion, point of order, question hour etc.

Raising slogans and rushing towards the Speaker are not conducive to a healthy system. Will our honourable members think about this for a moment?

Renga Sankaran,

Periyakulam, TN
