Ex-AGP Minister held on rape charge

GUWAHATI, AUG. 6. The former Asom Gana Parishad (AGP) Minister, Mr. Rajendra Mushahary, accused of raping a minor and fathering her child, was arrested last night here, police said today.

A DNA test had confirmed that Mr. Rajendra Mushahary was the biological father of the child whose mother, Ms. Monila Brahma, had alleged that he had made her pregnant. Ms. Monila had filed an FIR six months after she was allegedly raped in a hotel at Warisa on the Assam-West Bengal border. The DNA test was carried out by the Hyderabad-based Centre for DNA Fingerprinting and Diagnostics, which confirmed that Mr. Mushahary had fathered Ms. Monila's child.
