NHRC notice to TN Govt. on Erwadi incident

NEW DELHI, AUG. 6. The National Human Rights Commission today issued notice to the Chief Secretary, Tamil Nadu Government, to report to the Commission within a week about the tragic incident in Erwadi Dargah, near Ramanathapuram, in the wee hours of Monday, in which 25 mentally retarded persons were charred to death.

Taking suo motu cognisance of the fire which devastated the mental asylum, the Commission wanted the Chief Secretary to report on the steps taken by the Government in this regard.
