8 militants killed in Assam

GUWAHATI, AUG. 5. Eight militants of the banned ULFA and NDFB were killed in separate encounters in Assam, official sources said today.

Three ULFA militants were killed in an encounter with security forces near Paneri in Darrang district last night. The militants had opened fire on the patrolling troops in an attempt to flee and were killed in the retaliatory fire.

In yet another encounter with the Army, three NDFB militants were killed at Bokrajuli near Tamulpur in Nalbari district last night.

Another NDFB militant was killed in an encounter with the Army in Kokrajhar district.

Police killed an ULFA militant in Kamrup district and recovered a radio set and several rounds of live ammunition from the slain militant.
