Why drag in Moopanar, TMC asks Cong. rebels

By Our Special Correspondent

CHENNAI, AUG. 5. The TMC has criticised `Congress dissidents' for dragging its president, Mr. G. K. Moopanar, in the internal affairs of the TNCC.

The parliamentary party leader, Mr. S. Peter Alphonse, in a statement here today, said the TMC since its inception had never indulged in activities which would affect the Congress at the national level.

After Mrs. Sonia Gandhi donned the AICC mantle, Mr. Moopanar stood with the Congress whenever it faced crisis as he was firm that the Congress leadership and secular national forces should not be weakened at any cost.

If anybody tried to belittle Mr. Moopanar's activities for selfish political gains, it would harm the future of the Congress, Mr. Alphonse warned. If they continued their campaign against Mr. Moopanar, the TMC parliamentary party group would have no other alternative to informing Mrs. Gandhi.

The TMC, he said, had no objection to these `political orphans' securing recognition but it would not allow them to get it at the cost of the TMC.
