Manipur remains cut off
By Our Correspondent
IMPHAL, AUG.2 As Manipur remains cut off from the rest of the
country for the sixth day today, stocks of food and other items
have alarmingly depleted, according to official sources.
Meanwhile the Naga organisations have resorted to blockade of the
national highways one after another so that buses and trucks are
unable to come to Manipur through these lifelines. Reports say
that buses with hundreds of passengers and trucks carrying
essential items are stranded at Moreh, Jiribam and many other
places in Assam. Despite the appeal by the Governor, Mr.Ved
Prakash Marwah, to the Naga groups to call off the highway
blockade, there is no response. Meanwhile the Government is under
attack for its failure to provide security along the two national
highways. Tourists and traders who have been stranded at Moreh
since July 28 are not escorted back to Pallel, just 60 km away.
