Partisan action
Sir, - The incisive Editorial, `Cynical Manoeuvres' (July 31),
has brought out the true intentions of the Central Government in
transferring the three senior police officers involved in the
former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister's arrest. So palpably blatant
are the mala fides of the Government's move that even a simpleton
will not be hoodwinked by the claim that the transfers were
decided upon in the ordinary course. In fact, speaking in general
terms, prudence would demand keeping in abeyance even the
genuinely contemplated course of action.
By its action, the Centre besides threatening to undermine the
framework of Centre-State relations would sully its own image,
projecting itself as not being capable of objective thinking and
balanced judgment and as being influenced by partisan
considerations.
A.N. Ganapathy,
