Empowerment of teachers
EMPOWERING TEACHERS - What Successful Principals Do: Joseph Blase
- Jo Blase; Sage Publications India Pvt. Ltd., M- 32 Market,
Greater Kailash 1, New Delhi-110048. $27.95 (paperback).
THIS BOOK brings out in a remarkably lucid fashion, how the heads
of institutions can qualitatively transform the work of teachers.
Undoubtedly, successful principals do a lot to bolster the
confidence, commitment and self-esteem of teachers. In effect,
the book is about leadership qualities in a school setting. The
authors, with their extensive experience, both in teaching and in
administration, get down to brasstacks right from the beginning.
They point out that the impetus for teacher empowerment was given
by the publication of A Nation at Risk, an extensive study of
American schools. Schools all over the world face similar
problems and the good ones are those which not only overcome
these but go to establish enviable standards making the people
associated with them feel a glow of pride.
The "references'' given at the end and the "index'' following it
will prove useful to all those involved with the functioning of
schools.
