Metrowater to install 1,200 tanks

By Our Staff Reporter

CHENNAI, JULY 30. The Metrowater has planned to install about 1,200 water tanks in different parts of the city by August 15.

So far, 406 tanks have been installed, of which 124 mounted on mini-lorries and tractors, 271 in all 10 zones of the Chennai Corporation and 11 in the Slum Clearance Board's tenements.

This follows the Chief Minister, Ms. Jayalalithaa's directive last month to the Metrowater to set up 1,650 tanks to tackle water scarcity.

The Metrowater has proposed to install 1,500 high-density polyethylene tanks and 150 mild-steel tanks. So far, it has purchased 921 tanks.
