Kalyan moves HC on security cover
By Our Staff Reporter
NEW DELHI, JULY 30. The former Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister, Mr.
Kalyan Singh, today moved the Delhi High Court seeking a
direction to the Union Home Ministry to restore the National
Security Guards (NSG) security cover to him. Mr. Justice Mukul
Mudgal adjourned the petition for August 3 asking the former
Chief Minister to provide full details of the present nature of
security provided to him.
The `Z+' security, which Mr. Singh had been enjoying for the past
eight years, was withdrawn on June 29 and provided ``Cobra
Force'' security by the Lucknow police in its place, the petition
said. He alleged that the Centre withdrew his NSG security cover
to settle political scores as he had become a political threat to
the BJP in Uttar Pradesh.
The two U.P. former Chief Ministers, Mr. Mulayam Singh Yadav of
the Samajwadi Party, and Ms. Mayawati of the Bahujan Samaj Party,
had NSG security cover while it was withdrawn from him despite
the fact that the threat perception to him was more than them,
Mr. Singh said.
He has made the Prime Minister, Mr. Atal Behari Vajpayee, and the
Union Home Minister, Mr. L.K. Advani, parties to the case saying
that his security had been withdrawn at their behest.
