Naidu expands HRD panel

By Our Special Correspondent

HYDERABAD, JULY 28. The augmented HRD wing of the Telugu Desam met here on Saturday to discuss schedule of programmes and modalities of organising training and motivation sessions for functionaries.

The party president and Chief Minister, Mr. N. Chandrababu Naidu, put in a brief appearance and made some suggestions to members. After the recent elections to the panchayati raj bodies, Mr. Naidu acknowledged the ``importance'' of the HRD and strengthened the three-member panel with the addition of 13 more, mostly MPs and MLAs.

Prof. C. Lakshmanna is chairman of the HRD wing with Dr. Ch. Shanker Mudiraj and Mrs. A. Nagavani as members. Added to this are: Messrs A. Brahmanaiah, G. Ramamohana Rao, C. Ramachandraiah, M. Jagannadham, B. Venkateswarlu, MPs, D. Veerabahdra Rao, B. Satyanarayanamurthy, K. Dayakar Reddy, S. Chandramohan Reddy, N. Sudhakar Reddy, C. C. Venkataramudu, K. Sivaprasada Rao, MLAs and Ch. Rajeswara Rao, ex-MLA. Mr. Venkataramudu was subsequently shifted to the election review committee headed by Dr. Ummareddy Venkateswarlu.

Underscoring the crucial role of the HRD in the party, Prof. Lakshmanna said it was proposed to organise interactive sessions for district HRD units (three members) with district president, secretary, in charge, Ministers, MPs and other leaders. The sessions might be held either in Hyderabad or in

batches of two or three districts in a central place convenient to them, some time in September.

It was indicated that the districts units might also be strengthened like the State committee. The Andhra Pradesh Academy of Rural Development is understood to have offered to organise orientation programme for the newly-elected mandal and zilla parishad functionaries. A decision has to be taken on whether the party should conduct training programmes for the elected functionaries or accept the services of APARD.
